Google Analytics: humans from AI

Agent Analytics shows the crawlers that read your pages. This tab shows the people AI assistants send to you: visits, conversions, the pages they land on, and your AI Overviews / AI Mode exposure in Google Search.

Connect Google#

Open AI Traffic → Google Analytics in the app. GA4 and Search Console connect separately, so you can start with either one.

  1. 1

    Sign in with Google

Use an account with read access to the GA4 property and the Search Console property of your site. Rankealo only requests read-only scopes.
  2. 2

    Select the property

Pick the GA4 property for this website. Search Console uses the property that matches your domain.
  3. 3

    Wait for the first sync

AI referrals are read live from GA4 the first time, then stored daily with 90 days of history. AI Overviews / AI Mode data appears after the next daily Search Console sync.

What the tiles mean#

  • Humans from AIGA4 sessions whose source is an AI assistant (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI and more).
  • Conversions from AIGA4 key events from those sessions, plus the conversion rate (key events per session).
  • AI share of trafficAI-referred sessions as a share of all GA4 sessions in the same range.
  • Articles cited by AIArticles Rankealo published for you that AI engines have cited.

Every tile compares with the previous period of the same length. Click a tile to chart it; turn on Compare platforms to see one line per AI assistant. When GA4 has no data for the whole previous period, the change shows as “—” instead of a misleading number.

Platforms, landing pages and journeys#

  • Platforms: sessions, engagement rate, conversions and conversion rate per AI assistant.
  • Landing pages: where AI visitors arrive, with conversions and a Bot crawls column from Agent Analytics. Pages that bots crawl but people never visit are the first ones to improve.
  • Platform → page journey: which assistants send people to which sections of your site (grouped by the first part of the path, such as /blog or /pricing).

From Search Console, Rankealo separates impressions and clicks where you appeared in AI Overviews or AI Mode from classic results, shows the daily trend, and lists the queries that triggered those appearances. Full keyword and page reports stay on Search & Traffic.

Limits#

AI referrals are a lower bound

Some AI apps (mobile apps, some desktop clients) strip the referrer, so GA4 files those visits as direct traffic. The real number of people AI sends you is at least what this tab shows.
  • Conversions are GA4 key events. Mark sign-ups or demo requests as key events in GA4 to count them.
  • Revenue is not shown: most B2B SaaS sites bill outside GA4.
  • The “classic” Google figure is all Search Console traffic minus AI surfaces, so it is approximate.

Troubleshooting#

Humans from AI is 0+
Check that the selected GA4 property is the one on your live site, and that the range includes days after tracking started. Visits from apps that strip the referrer count as direct.
No AI Overviews data+
It appears after the next daily Search Console sync, and only for queries where Google showed your site in AI Overviews or AI Mode.
Conversions stay at 0+
Mark the events you care about (sign_up, generate_lead, purchase) as key events in GA4 Admin → Events.
