Rankealo

Shopify

Publish blog articles to your Shopify store. Rankealo uses the Admin API with read_content and write_content scopes.

Shopify access tokens are shown only once. Rankealo auto-detects your first blog unless you provide a Blog ID.

What you'll need#

  • Shopify admin access to create a custom app.
  • Admin API scopes: read_content and write_content.
  • Your shop subdomain (the part before .myshopify.com).

Step 1 — Get your credentials#

  1. 1
Log in to your Shopify admin.
  2. 2
Go to Settings → Apps and sales channels.
  3. 3
Click "Develop apps" (enable if needed).
  4. 4
Click "Create an app" and name it.
  5. 5
    Click "Configure Admin API scopes".
  6. 6
    Enable read_content and write_content scopes.
  7. 7
    Click Save, then "Install app".
  8. 8
Click "Reveal token once" and copy it immediately.
  9. 9
Optional: copy a specific Blog ID if you do not want Rankealo to use the first blog in your store.

Step 2 — Connect in Rankealo#

In Rankealo, open Integrations, choose Shopify, and fill in these fields:

FieldRequiredWhere to find it
Shop NameRequiredYour shop subdomain only — e.g. mystore for mystore.myshopify.com.
Admin API Access TokenRequiredThe shpat_… token revealed once when you install the custom app.
Blog IDOptionalLeave blank to use the first Shopify blog in your store.

Shopify sets the article URL handle itself: Rankealo suggests a handle from the article title, but Shopify may adjust it, and the live URL is built from your blog handle and primary domain. The meta description is saved as the article SEO description (global.description_tag metafield) and as its excerpt.

Click Test Connection. Rankealo verifies your credentials — you must see a successful test before Save Integration becomes available.

Updating credentials later

Secrets are write-only. When you reopen a saved integration, secret fields show “leave blank to keep existing” — only re-enter them if you are rotating keys.

What gets synced#

When Rankealo publishes, each article carries:

  • TitleThe article title.
  • ContentFull article body as HTML (or markdown where the platform supports it).
  • Meta descriptionSEO meta description / excerpt, where the platform has a field for it.
  • URL handleSuggested from the title on create (Shopify may adjust it); not changed on update.
  • SummaryThe meta description is also sent as the article summary.
  • SEO descriptionSaved to the article SEO description metafield.
  • TagsThe target keyword is sent as a tag.
  • Featured imageSent with alt text when the article has a featured image.

Slug, featured image, tags and SEO title depend on the platform and your field mapping. Each platform guide lists exactly what it sends.

Updates & re-publishing#

Rankealo tracks the post it created for each article. When an article is edited — or automatically re-optimized by Improvements — Rankealo updates the same post in place rather than creating a duplicate.

Troubleshooting#

Authentication failed+
Regenerate the Admin API token — Shopify only shows it once. Confirm read_content and write_content scopes are enabled.
Articles publish to the wrong blog+
Set an explicit Blog ID from Shopify admin → Online Store → Blog posts → select the blog and copy its ID from the URL.
Missing content scope errors+
Reinstall the custom app with both read_content and write_content scopes, then paste the new token.
