Rankealo

Ghost

Publish articles to Ghost through the Admin API. Rankealo creates each article as a live post and updates the same post in place when you edit it.

The Admin API key gives full administrative access to your Ghost site (it can create, edit and delete content). Treat it like a password, only create it for Rankealo, and revoke it by deleting the custom integration in Ghost if you disconnect.

What you'll need#

  • A Ghost site (Ghost(Pro) or self-hosted) where you are an Owner or Administrator.
  • The Admin API URL of your site (e.g. https://yourblog.ghost.io).
  • A Custom Integration in Ghost Admin to generate an Admin API key.

Step 1 — Get your credentials#

Ghost uses the Admin API key from a Custom Integration. Do not use the Content API key — it is read-only.

  1. 1
In Ghost Admin, open Settings -> Integrations.
  2. 2
Click "Add custom integration" and name it (for example "Rankealo").
  3. 3
Copy the Admin API key. It has the form id:secret (two parts separated by a colon).
  4. 4
Copy the API URL shown on the same page (your Admin API URL).
  5. 5
Paste both into Rankealo and click Test Connection.

Step 2 — Connect in Rankealo#

In Rankealo, open Integrations, choose Ghost, and fill in these fields:

FieldRequiredWhere to find it
API URLRequiredThe Admin API URL from your Ghost custom integration.
Admin API keyRequiredThe id:secret key from your Ghost custom integration.

Click Test Connection. Rankealo verifies your credentials — you must see a successful test before Save Integration becomes available.

Updating credentials later

Secrets are write-only. When you reopen a saved integration, secret fields show “leave blank to keep existing” — only re-enter them if you are rotating keys.

What gets synced#

When Rankealo publishes, each article carries:

  • TitleThe article title.
  • ContentFull article body as HTML (or markdown where the platform supports it).
  • Meta descriptionSEO meta description / excerpt, where the platform has a field for it.
  • SlugGenerated from the title. If a post with that slug already exists, it is linked instead of creating a duplicate.
  • SEO titleSent as the post meta title.
  • Featured imageThe article featured image URL is set as the post feature image.

Slug, featured image, tags and SEO title depend on the platform and your field mapping. Each platform guide lists exactly what it sends.

Updates & re-publishing#

Rankealo stores the Ghost post id for each article and updates that post in place. Updates need the stored post id: if the post was deleted in Ghost, the update reports that it no longer exists and you can republish to create it again. Limits: tags and authors are not set by Rankealo (Ghost applies its defaults), and posts are created as published, not as drafts.

Troubleshooting#

Connection test fails+
Check that the API URL is your Admin API URL, and that the key is the Admin API key in id:secret form (not the Content API key).
Authentication failed after it worked before+
The custom integration may have been deleted or its key regenerated in Ghost. Copy the new key into Rankealo and save.
Update says the post no longer exists+
The post was removed in Ghost. Republish the article to create a new post.
